Exfoliation

W-What is exfoliation?

There are two different types of exfoliation manual and chemical. Those types of exfoliation remove the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. By exfoliating your skin, it will help keep your skin smooth and soft.  By not exfoliating the pores can clog and the skin can look dull.

There are a few different factors that go into how often you should be exfoliating. Such as, your skin type, skin sensitivity and what you are using to exfoliate your skin. But in general, it is ideal to use a gentle exfoliating method 2-3 times a week.

H- How does exfoliation work?

Manual or physical exfoliation works by using a rubbing motion with some abrasive to remove the dead skills. These are things like scrubs, facial and body brushes, loofahs, dermaplaning and microneedling. D

Chemical exfoliants come in a few different forms, such as over the counter AHAs and BHAs. AHAs are skincare ingredients such as glycolic acid, lactic acid and citric acid.  AHAs can help with hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores and fine lines and wrinkles. BHAs include skincare ingredients like salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is commonly used to treat acne and helps smooth skin texture. Some people can use AHAs and BHAs daily but, when first starting out or if you have sensitive and dry skin you can use them anywhere from 1-3 times a week. Chemical peels are another form of chemical exfoliation. Since these are more intense, they are done less often but tend to give a more dramatic result.

Y- Why is exfoliation important for you?

Exfoliation is a simple way to achieve smoother and brighter skin. With consistent exfoliation you can reduce fine lines, wrinkles, acne and hyperpigmentation. Especially with chemical exfoliation you can target other skincare concerns you may have. Exfoliation is also going to help your serums penetrate better because they will not have to go through as much dead skin.
