W-hat is this?

Sunscreen is an essential part of your daily skincare routine to prevent sun damage, aging and skin cancer. UV exposure is responsible for 80% of skin ageing. So, the best anti-aging regiment you can do is to be sure you are diligent with your sunscreen.

H-ow does it work?

There are two different kinds of sunscreens that protect against UVA and UVB rays, chemical and physical sunscreen. Physical or mineral sunscreen blocks and scatter sun rays before they penetrate your skin. Some examples of physical sunscreen ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Chemical sunscreens absorb the UV rays before they can damage your skin. Some examples of chemical sunscreen ingredients are avobenzone and octisalate. A lot of sunscreens will contain a combination of both physical and chemical sunscreen ingredients.

Whenever you look at a sunscreen bottle you will see SPF. You are probably wondering what SPF even means and does it matter. SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. The SPF number tells you how long it takes the sun’s UVB rays to redden the skin versus the amount of time without sunscreen. For example, it takes 30 times longer to burn compared to not wearing sunscreen with SPF 30. You want to look for an SPF of at least 30 and preferably that is water resistant.
