Have you found yourself researching Botox but feeling discouraged by the toxic ingredient list? Perhaps you have (or haven’t) heard of Hollywood’s best-kept secret: “naked botox.” Xeomin is a uniquely purified anti-wrinkle injection that does the work of Botox without the unnecessary proteins. If you have frown lines you’re looking to get rid of, keep reading.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA), made by Merz Pharmaceuticals, is approved by the US FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. Xeomin contains botulinum toxin type A, which is a protein purified from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Xeomin is additive-free, making it the cleaner solution compared to competitors Botox or Dysport.

How does it work?

Xeomin works by relaxing the underlying nerves to smooth out the facial expression lines caused by muscle contraction. Xeomin is injected directly into the muscles that cause those ‘11 lines’ by disabling them and helping prevent them from deepening further.

We recommend pairing this treatment with regular chemical peels and/or facials to assist in achieving consistent and dramatic results.

Xeomin versus Botox?

Xeomin and Botox have the same active ingredient, Botulinum neurotoxin. The only difference is that Xeomin does not carry the proteins that are typical of other products and does not require any refrigeration. Since ‘naked’ Xeomin does not have these additional proteins, it has been suggested that desensitization does not occur with this product. Additionally, because of the absence of added fillers, there is a smaller likelihood of allergic reactions.

What are the common benefits of Xeomin?

Xeomin removes wrinkles caused by facial movement, which results in a more youthful complexion. Xeomin is especially effective for between the eyebrows, treating crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, bunny lines on the nose, and downturned corners of the mouth. Xeomin will relax the muscle, preventing further wrinkling.

How are Xeomin injections performed?

During treatment, your doctor will use very fine needles to inject Xeomin into the muscles in the affected areas of the face. No anesthesia is required, although a topical anesthetic or cold pack may be used to keep you comfortable.

How long do Xeomin treatments take?

Xeomin treatments typically last 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the number of injections required.

What can I expect after my Xeomin treatment?

Mild bruising or swelling may occur at the site of the injections, accompanied by a brief headache. Your physician will request you remain upright, avoid vigorous activity, and avoid touching the treated area. Results become visible quickly within three to five days, although some areas may take as long as two weeks. You can enjoy results that last around four to six months.

How long before I can return to regular activity?

You can return to work or home immediately without any downtime.
