WHAT IS SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS?

Seborrheic dermatitis is a long-standing inflammatory skin condition that occurs in children and adults with varying severity ranging from mild scaling of the scalp aka dandruff to more widespread involvement.

HOW does SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS OCCUR?

The cause is unknown and even though it seems to occur on areas with increased sebaceous glands such as the scalp, upper trunk, and face, it is not known to be a disease of the sebaceous glands or increased sebum production. It tends to worsen with stress and during the cold, winter months.

“WHY” IS SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Seborrheic dermatitis is usually clinically diagnosed but sometimes a biopsy is necessary to rule out other similar presenting inflammatory skin conditions. The main goal of treatment is to reduce visible signs of seborrheic dermatitis as well as treated associated symptoms such as itching and redness.
